POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Brand Manager is responsible for being the US Market expert for key product categories by directing a comprehensive product strategy for product conception and definition, and managing the product line process from concept to delivery. The Senior Brand Manager collaborates with those involved in all phases of the product development process, while keeping abreast of leading industry trends including, but not limited to, educational aspects, technologies, and kids' edutainment products.

The position requires an understanding of consumer needs/trends, market opportunities, and consumer product experiences, and uses this knowledge to build excitement that drives business. The position is responsible for defining and gaining consensus of the consumer value proposition definition, product positioning, new product launch plans, and works in cross-functional partnership with Product Managers and other teams to deliver on these critical areas.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Effectively interface with upper-management, cross-functional departments, customers, vendors and outside contacts.  Experience leading teams with competing priorities.
  • Provide internal stakeholders ongoing analyses and recommendations regarding effectiveness, competitiveness and revenue generating opportunities for managed product lines.
  • Determine product roadmap requirements, including SKU count, product positioning, price points, play patterns, forecasts and line extensions.
  • Manage the portfolio in owned categories across brands, ensuring products meet strategic and brand objectives for each through implementation of a dual-brand product strategy, where appropriate.
  • Drive adherence to the dual brand strategy with internal PD team and with global development teams to ensure product play patterns, curriculum and form factors align with the strategy.
  • Define US product strategies by sharing information and research on trends, best-selling products from competitors, and developmental/learning needs for children.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing/PD leadership to provide input on retail and marketing strategies related to product development and partner on product strategies that meet sales and organization growth objectives.
  • Use analysis of consumer trends, category performance and industry growth areas to identify new product opportunities for each brand in respective categories.
  • Lead development of retailer product presentations, including development of upfront product strategies for sales pitches, product overviews and competitive comparisons.
  • Provide PD direction and approvals for marketing team on branded product assets, including POP material, packaging, commercials, cross-sells, digital, and retail specific requests to appropriate marketing team resources.
  • Liaise with the LeapFrog content team to develop and evolve processes for joint product development, where appropriate.
  • Grow product development team, utilizing training and mentorship to develop their skills.
  • Develop product style guides for all product categories managed, in collaboration with Hong Kong and global product teams.

SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS

  • Strong understanding of brand management and product marketing
  • Drive to execute a successful marketing and product plan through complete product life cycles
  • Proven experience in consumer needs assessment, business planning, market analysis, competitive assessments, and market requirements definition
  • Excellent written and oral skills to communicate clearly and negotiate effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Solid understanding of product planning for the Toy Consumer Product market or Consumer Electronics (i.e. tablets, smartphones, etc.) is required
  • Basic understanding of children's play patterns and developmental milestones
  • US market expertise in understanding the electronic learning industry competitors and products
  • Ability to wear multiple hats and provide insights from Marketing, Sales, Customer, Consumer, and End-User perspectives
  • Excellent collaborative and organizational skills and rigorous attention to detail
  • Proficient in MS Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Superior project management skills
  • Ability to grow and develop teams with diverse skill sets

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, English, or a related field, and 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in the area of Product Management, including successful product launches and 3 years of experience in consumer product goods preferably in toys, games, children's educational products, or tablets/smartphones; or any combination of experience and education that provides the necessary skills, knowledge and ability to perform assigned tasks. Hands on experience leading multiple brands and businesses, product positioning, budgeting, packaging and developing products and managing them through full life cycle.
